Assistant Professor of Chemistry
Washington and Lee University’s (W&L) Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor. Candidates with expertise in physical chemistry, biophysical chemistry, biochemistry, polymer chemistry, materials chemistry, environmental chemistry, or medicinal chemistry will be considered.

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching a 5.5 course load that consists of some combination of teaching a one-term, introductory chemistry course/lab, 200- and 300-level courses/labs in the candidate’s area of expertise, and periodically a course for non-science majors that is part of W&L’s general education curriculum. Start-up funding commensurate with top liberal arts colleges will be provided by W&L to initiate and support an active research program involving undergraduate students. Such a program will be expected of the candidate.
Washington and Lee University is a highly selective, independent, co-educational, liberal arts college of approximately 1820 undergraduate students. We are located in Lexington, VA, about one-hour southwest of Charlottesville, VA, 45-minutes north of Roanoke, VA, and three-hours southwest of Washington, DC. W&L is annually ranked among the top 12 national liberal arts colleges, and the Department has ACS-certified programs in both chemistry and biochemistry.
A Ph.D. is required; postdoctoral experience is strongly recommended.
