We are looking for a person to fill in the position of Research Chemist III in Quaker Houghton’s Center of Innovation (COI) Group for the global Metal Working Fluids (MWF) in Conshohocken, PA, USA.  The incumbent will autonomously manage and execute development assignments, determinations and tests relating to the development of green and sustainable metalworking fluids with emerging materials such as renewable, green and environmentally friendly components such as vegetable based oils, lubricity additives, amines, and emulsifiers etc.  This person will not only understand and improve Quaker Houghton’s current MWF product performance, but also enable us to evolve out of the traditional MWF chemistries, old technologies and aged processes to make the metalworking fluids multi-functional and cost effective. 

To accomplish these goals, a suitable candidate will evaluate various types of metalworking fluids including, but not limited to, simple and polymeric solutions, emulsions, and suspensions. The candidate will explore and investigate the physical, chemical and tribological properties of sustainable lubricity additives, surfactants, polymers, vegetable based oils for applications in water- based MWFs. The ability to work creatively in both an independent and collaborative environment is critical for this role. The candidate will also assist with field trials of new product prototypes by utilizing systematic data collection and assessment method.

The applicant will also collaborate with universities and research institutes in long term research projects to gain the knowledge and to generate new Intellectual properties for Quaker Houghton’s MWFs and technologies.

This position requires at least a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry with at least 5+ years related chemistry experience required.  Equivalent combination of education (minimum bachelor’s degree) and experience will be considered.  A PhD in physical chemistry or polymer chemistry is highly preferred with an emphasis on the hands-on experiments and investigation of physical, chemical and tribological properties of various new additives, polymers, and nano-particles.
