The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) seeks outstanding applicants for a tenure-leading, twelve-month faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor.

We encourage applications from all fields broadly comprising pharmaceutical sciences, but applicants engaged in computational drug discovery/medicinal chemistry, drug delivery/nanomedicine, and molecular modeling/biophysics are of particular interest. Applicants must have a doctoral degree in a relevant scientific discipline such as Pharmaceutical Science, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Bioengineering. Post-doctoral experience (or equivalent) is also required. This experience should demonstrate productivity in the applicant’s proposed area of research and the ability to establish an independent research program garnering strong national and international recognition as well as enhancing both basic and translational pharmaceutical research at UNMC. The successful applicant is expected to be committed to teaching at a high level within the professional Pharm.D., graduate Ph.D., and undergraduate B.S. programs and develop graduate courses in their area of research expertise.

The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences is one of two College of Pharmacy departments. The faculty of 20 members is currently training 80 graduate students in a broad area of pharmaceutical sciences that includes: drug discovery and development, medicinal chemistry, drug delivery, nanomedicine, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, pharmacogenomics, and pharmaceutical biophysics. The Pharmaceutical Sciences Department is home to the NIH Center for Biomedical Research Excellence (CoBRE) and the Center for Drug Delivery and Nanomedicine (CDDN). The College of Pharmacy is ranked in the top 10 in NIH funding per faculty member among US Schools of Pharmacy. UNMC is ranked among the top 75 universities globally in pharmacy according to the Academic Rankings of World Universities. The UNMC College of Pharmacy in collaboration with the College of Medicine recently received both an NIH T32 grant and a Department of Education GAANN grant supporting training programs in Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia drug discovery, and Structural Biology and Molecular Biophysics, respectively. This environment creates exciting opportunities for the successful candidate to establish research collaborations within the College of Pharmacy as well as the greater UNMC research community. Please visit the UNMC CoP website for additional information https://www.unmc.edu/pharmacy/.

Application requirements are as follows:

  • A cover letter with names and contact information of at least three references
  • Current curriculum vitae that includes a complete list of publications
  • Concise three-page description of research plans
  • One-page teaching philosophy

The documents containing the research plans and teaching philosophy should be uploaded as an “other document”. The UNMC Pharmaceutical Sciences Department recognizes the importance of a diverse faculty and strives for an inclusive culture within the department and the College of Pharmacy. We strongly encourage applicants from diverse backgrounds to apply, especially those underrepresented in the sciences.

Applications must be submitted online at: https://unmc.peopleadmin.com/postings/73819. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. For full consideration, applications should be received by October 1. Relevant inquiries may be directed to the Chair of the Search Committee, Don Ronning, at don.ronning@unmc.edu.
