The Department of Biochemistry at Virginia Tech seeks enthusiastic candidates for a non-tenure track Collegiate Assistant Professor position. This is a nine-month, full time position with a renewable three-year contract and the opportunity for promotion (for more information on the Collegiate Professor ranks, see https://faculty.vt.edu/faculty-handbook/chapter05.html). The Biochemistry Department is a dynamic, collaborative, and tight-knit community of scientist educators that currently includes 20 tenure-stream and two collegiate faculty. Our ASBMB-certified undergraduate program currently serves 450 majors. In addition, the department offers courses that serve hundreds of non-majors across the life sciences as well as over 30 graduate students. The successful candidate will advance the instructional mission of the department by teaching courses, engaging in curricular development and course transformations, adopting innovative and inclusive pedagogical practices, and enhancing undergraduate research and/or outreach opportunities. The Biochemistry Department is committed to creating an inclusive environment that promotes the success of a diverse student body and is actively engaged in efforts to build inclusive educational practices within the curriculum. The position responsibilities also include a scholarly component, which may involve scholarship of teaching and learning or of biochemical research by undergraduates. The candidate will be expected to serve on departmental, college, or university committees as a contributing member of the department and of the broader university community. Candidates with experience at all levels of professional development (e.g., recent Ph.D. recipient, postdoctoral trainee, or instructor) with a passion for teaching and a firm foundation in biochemistry and molecular biology are encouraged to apply.
