Job Details

Position Summary  This is a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track position, in the department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. The primary responsibility of this position is to teach general chemistry and upper-division courses in the discipline.  

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry or Biochemistry.   Experimental chemist with research experience in analytical or instrumental techniques.   Record of teaching experience and excellence at the undergraduate level.     All applicants should be prepared to teach both lower-division and upper-division courses in the discipline.   Demonstrated ability to work in an interdisciplinary, collaborative setting.     A commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.  

Major Responsibilities 

  • Teaching general chemistry and specialized courses in successful candidate’s research area.   Demonstrating a commitment to student success in the classroom, during office hours, through mentorship of chemistry and biochemistry students and by supervising undergraduate research projects    Maintaining an active program of scholarship and disciplinary engagement     Participating in departmental and College governance and professional service     Engaging authentically with students, the department and colleagues     Safely operate and model proper use of lab equipment    Maintaining knowledge and awareness of digital accessibility including the American with Disabilities Act and Section 508.    Producing and remediating digitally accessible materials in accordance with FLC standards.    Performing other duties as assigned

  • Moderate noise (i.e. business office  and laboratory equipment (computers, phone, printers, vents)      Use of Personal Protective Equipment(PPE) as required by law and manufacturer requirements    Ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period of time.    Safely work with hazardous chemicals  including, but not limited to strong acids/bases, flammable solvents, pyrophoric compounds, possible carcinogens   Ability to work in a fume hood  

Compensation   The salary for this position is $55,000 plus a comprehensive benefits package
