Job Summary: The Department of Chemistry in the College of Arts and Sciences at Georgia State University (GSU) seeks exceptional candidates for up to two tenure-track Assistant Professor positions.

GSU and the Department:  GSU, a world-class public doctoral research university with more than 54,000 students, is in the heart of downtown Atlanta, Georgia. GSU has recently invested significantly into its academic enterprise and is among the Carnegie Foundation’s elite category of Very High Research Activity (R1). GSU is ranked No. 1 in public universities for undergraduate teaching and No. 2 for innovation (U.S. News & World Report, 2022).

The Department of Chemistry is a fast-growing program with forty-one faculty. Students and faculty contribute to cutting-edge externally funded research at the interface of chemistry and bio/medical science. Qualifications For the Position(s):  Essential qualifications: A Ph.D. degree in Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, or a related field, and post-doctoral experience is required. Outstanding research accomplishments, the ability to establish an independent research program with significant extramural funding, an unwavering dedication toward excellence in teaching, and a demonstrated commitment to working with diverse student and faculty populations, are the primary evaluation criteria.

Preferred qualifications for candidates in experimental biophysical chemistry include but are not limited to understanding biological processes, the mechanism of interaction of small molecules with nucleic acids or proteins, large biomolecular motors (machines), or enzyme dynamics. Preferred qualifications for candidates in bioorganic/medicinal chemistry include but are not limited to research areas of drug design, drug delivery, or understanding complex biological processes.
