FMC’s Global Research and Development organization is looking for an Investigative Fate Scientist to support their crop protection business.  As a member of the Investigative Sciences Group your role will be focused on conducting research for new and existing molecules to help farmers maintain a safe and secure food supply while protecting the environment for future generations. A principle scientific background in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or related disciplines is desired for this role. The Investigative Sciences Group offers a unique balance of individual responsibilities and a team-focused project approach, providing our scientists with opportunities to engage in proprietary molecule development, learn regulations around the world, and invest in their understanding of emerging science.

 

Responsibilities

  • Design, lead and conduct laboratory studies with the goal of understanding the metabolism and the fate of our products in plants, animals, and in the environment.
  • Design and conduct novel studies with the goal of answering regulatory questions as required to gain product registrations globally. 
  • Plan and oversee in house soil and plant metabolism studies, interpret the data you generate, and communicate those findings to your project teams.
  • Collaborate with the Structural Elucidation Team and the Global Regulatory Sciences Group to isolate and identify potential degradation products and metabolites as required by the regulatory guidelines.

    

Required Education

  • PhD with 1-2 years of experience or MS with 5+ years of experience in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or related disciplines. Knowledge of LC/MS/MS systems and chromatographic separation strategies will be considered.

 

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the isolation and structural identification of metabolites and degradants from biological systems using radioactive samples and/or spectroscopic techniques. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work within a diverse team.
  • The ability to work effectively with other scientists, engineers, and management at all levels to achieve a common goal.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience managing multiple demands in timeline driven environment.
  • Experience in developing trace level residue and environmental methods a plus but not necessary.
  • Experience in a commercial setting relevant to the metabolism of organic chemicals is considered a plus but not necessary.
