The Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology (CCB) at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, seeks to hire an outstanding scholar for a tenure-track assistant professor position on our New Brunswick/Piscataway campus.

The search is open to all areas of chemistry. We especially welcome applicants with interests in physical chemistry, broadly defined, such as the development of ultrafast spectroscopy for materials or machine learning methodologies for chemical and biomolecular systems, but outstanding candidates in any area of chemistry that complements the current research in the department are invited to apply.

The successful candidate will be housed in our new 145,000 sf, state-of-the-art chemistry building; have access to rich experimental and computational resources on campus; and engage with world-class research faculty within the department and the University community.

As a campus with a large and diverse student body, we especially encourage applications from traditionally underrepresented minority groups. Rutgers University is committed to enhancing academic excellence and diversity. Significant resources are being developed throughout the university under the umbrella of a new Faculty Diversity Initiative (https://academicaffairs.rutgers.edu/investing-faculty-diversity-rutgers), housed within the Office of University Equity, which aims to increase diverse faculty hiring and engagement, ensure effective mentoring, expand networking opportunities, and develop leadership skills.

CCB faculty are expected to demonstrate an ability to build and sustain a world-class research program. They must have a Ph.D. in chemistry or a related field, a significant record of scholarship in fundamental research, and are expected to contribute to the diversity and excellence of the University’s academic community through their teaching, research, and service.

Applicants should submit the following:

  1. cover letter and detailed CV;
  2. four to six-page research development statement;
  3. one-page teaching statement;
  4. one-page diversity statement; and
  5. contact information for three references.

Questions about this search should be directed to facultysearch@chem.rutgers.edu

The review of applications will begin on October 15, 2022, and will continue until the position is filled.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, disability, protected veteran status or any other classification protected by law. All job offers are contingent upon successful pre-employment background screening.
