The Department of Chemistry at The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), along with the College of Sciences, is seeking applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in Biochemistry at the Assistant Professor rank with an anticipated start date of August 2023. The Department invites applicants wishing to establish an internationally recognized and externally funded research program in the area of biochemistry broadly defined which complements and synergizes with existing departmental strengths in biochemistry, medicinal chemistry, enzymology, organic chemistry, and drug discovery. The position offers a generous startup package, a supportive research environment, and the potential for additional startup funds from the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT). The successful candidate must have a commitment to work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of a diverse student population and be committed to advancing the University’s mission as an R1, urban-serving, Hispanic thriving institution deeply committed to student success and academic excellence including growing doctoral education.
Qualified applicants must have a Ph.D. degree in Chemistry/Biochemistry or a related field at the time of application with a strong track record of vigorous research accomplishments and publications and possess the ability to teach classes at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. At least one year of post-doctoral training is preferred. Interested applicants should include a cover letter expressing interest in the position along with a detailed curriculum vitae (including all academic and professional experiences, listing of publications, and accomplishments) and contact information for at least three (3) professional references. Applicants are also required to provide a statement of planned research activities (5-page limit) and a teaching statement (1-page limit) where both documents must include an intertwined discussion on the role that diversity and inclusion play in an academic environment. Review of completed applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled, with priority being given to applicants who submit completed packets by November 1, 2022. Applications received after that date will be reviewed until the position is filled. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. Applicants must be able to show proof that they are eligible and qualified to work in the United States by the time of hire.
