Biobot Analytics leverages wastewater analysis to inform public health decision making through wastewater based epidemiology. Our lab in Cambridge, MA analyzes wastewater from across the US for SARS-CoV-2, opiates, and other biomarkers and pathogens. Biobot is looking for a Process Development Scientist to help us scale our diagnostics lab and productionize more assays, empowering communities and organizations to make public health decisions based on reliable data.
The Process Development Scientist will be the lead scientist within our analytical chemistry process development team, ensuring the high quality and rigor of our assays, improving our processes and transferring new assays from our R+D team into production. We need you to serve our customers the public health data they need - through the development and improvement of new chemistry assays.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (What you will be doing):
- Evaluating and optimizing method performance and ruggedness for high-throughput assay commercialization
- Implementing automation for sample preparation and analysis
- Validating sample preparation (e.g., solid phase extraction) and determinative methods
- Developing SOPs and administrating plans for transferring new assays into production
- Planning and execution of process improvement efforts
- Identifying areas of improvement in or alternatives to our existing assays
- Troubleshooting sample preparation equipment and mass spectrometry instrumentation
- Mentoring research associates within our production team
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements (What you need to succeed):
- PhD + 2 years industry work experience or Master’s + 6 years industry work experience or Bachelor’s + 10 years work experience
- At least 2 years of experience in a production laboratory, working with analytical chemistry applications and instrumentation (SPE, LC-MS/MS, etc.)
- Experience with quantitative HPLC-MS/MS and with isotope dilution quantitation
- Quality control and/or process improvement and/or technology transfer experience in the above
- Technologically savvy; experience developing/modifying LIMS
- A collaborative and get-stuff-done attitude
Education and/or Work Experience Bonuses (What will help you succeed):
- Experience with production-level targeted mass spectrometry data
- Advanced degree in analytical chemistry or a related field
- Experience mentoring junior scientists
- Experience with scaling assays and with automation
Physical Requirements and Special Demands:
- Must be able to work while standing for extended periods of time.
- On occasion, lift and organize supplies up to 25 lbs
