Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute invites applications for a full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate appointment in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology to assist in drug discovery projects within the laboratory of Christopher Cioffi, Ph.D., Thomas and Constance D'Ambra Endowed Chair of Organic and Medicinal Chemistry. The successful candidate will contribute to collaborative research projects and provide support for basic and translational drug discovery efforts via organic synthesis and medicinal chemistry. These positions will be located in Cogswell Laboratory on the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute campus.
Candidates will have a Ph.D. in organic chemistry and medicinal chemistry experience is an asset. Qualified applicants must have significant laboratory experience in organic synthesis, purification of organic compounds, and significant experience in the operation and maintenance of chromatographic and spectroscopic instrumentation (HPLC, LCMS, NMR). Candidates must be able to interpret experimental data and troubleshoot when experimental problems arise. In addition, candidates are expected to maintain a safe laboratory environment and follow safety procedures.
Suitable candidates must be highly motivated, have excellent oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and be able to work independently. Furthermore, suitable candidates must also possess a willingness to contribute to the training and instruction of graduate and undergraduate students. Ideal candidates should be able to apply their synthetic expertise in organic and/or medicinal chemistry to current programs and bring a high level of independence and creativity to the position.
