Our CFSAN employees within Office of Food Additive Safety (OFAS) consist of highly specialized experts that protect and enhance consumer health by ensuring the safety of substances added to food and food contact materials. Open positions include regulatory review scientist positions and chemistry review scientist positions in the Division of Food Contact Substances (DFCS). DFCS serves to ensure food contact materials are safe (e.g., food packaging made from plastics, paper, coatings, recycled materials, and other materials contacting food).

Serves as project manager for industry submissions, and in this capacity, leads and coordinates internal and external meetings, and communicates findings with management and stakeholders.


• Collaborates with and advises stakeholders on regulatory issues related to food safety, laws, regulations, and policies, as well as scientific research and industry developments related to food contact substances.
• Serves as a technical expert and advisor to firms consulting with FDA on the safety and regulatory compliance of food contact substances and responds to stakeholder inquiries on these subjects.
• Evaluates data and information from a variety of sources to determine the safety of food contact substances or food ingredients.
• Participates in scientific conferences with internal and external stakeholders where aspects of scientific data and policy related to the safety of food contact substances are discussed.
