The Chemistry Program at the University of Illinois Springfield invites applications for two full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor positions. The Chemistry Program is a unit within the newly formed School of Integrated Sciences, Sustainability and Public Health. The program offers a BS in Biochemistry and an ACS accredited BS in Chemistry. Successful applicants are expected to demonstrate a record of (or potential for) high-quality undergraduate teaching, including the use of student-centered teaching approaches. The two positions are focused on teaching the physical chemistry sequence and health related chemistry sequence respectively and applicants that can contribute to courses in inorganic chemistry, biochemistry, physics and general chemistry are strongly encouraged to apply, with preference given to applicants that are able to contribute to more than one of these areas.
UIS tenure-system faculty are expected to be available and engaged in the campus community, with assigned professional responsibilities for teaching, scholarship, and service. Apart from teaching, candidates will be expected to establish and sustain a research program working with undergraduate students. Service aspects of the position include mentoring our diverse student body and participation in the administrative and governance functions of the program, the University, and the profession as appropriate. A Ph.D. in Chemistry or a related field is required. Documented ability to work in the US is also required. Expected start date is August 16, 2023.
