Job Details

Tenure-track faculty position in organic chemistry at Eastern Oregon University. This is a full-time position at the rank of assistant professor in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry in the College of Science, Technology, Mathematics and Health Sciences. Candidates should demonstrate a willingness to engage in high impact teaching, active scholarship, undergraduate research and outreach to the community. Candidates with experience in green chemistry are encouraged to apply.

The EOU Chemistry & Biochemistry Department is dedicated to providing high-quality undergraduate education in a supportive learning environment. Our program offers small class sizes, and one-on-one interaction with faculty, allowing students to maximize their learning experience. Our facilities provide faculty with modern instrumentation and dedicated research space.

Appointment begins September 16, 2023.

  • Teaching organic chemistry lecture and laboratory, as well as other chemistry courses, including organic spectroscopy. Faculty are responsible for teaching 36 load hours per academic year.
  • Operating a 400 MHz NMR and collaborating in ongoing support of other instrumentation, including GC-MS, HPLC, FTIR, UV-VIS, and polarimeter.
  • Candidates should be dynamic and innovative teachers who can also contribute to the program’s strengths in undergraduate research and community outreach. A nationally recognized ACS Student Chapter is in place at EOU and the successful candidate, in concert with the other chemistry faculty, is expected to support this activity.
  • The successful candidate will have a commitment to collegial collaboration within a small program, actively supporting our students in reaching their professional goals by providing academic and career advising, and assisting with recruiting efforts.
