First accredited by the Council of Education in Public Health (CEPH) in 2011, the School is a leading public school of public health in the New York region. Its student-centered public health training programs include:

  • Five Master of Public Health (MPH) degree programs in hybrid and online formats, Three online and one traditional Master of Science (M.S.) degree program, Three Ph.D. programs, and Two credit-bearing online advanced certificate programs.

 

Academic programs are organized into four departments: Community Health and Social Sciences; Environmental, Occupational and Geospatial Health Sciences; Epidemiology and Biostatistics; and Health Policy and Management.  We currently have 47 full-time faculty members, 31 adjunct faculty, 62 full-time staff, and over 200 research staff.  The School is also home to seven thriving centers and institutes and is increasingly recognized as a hub for impactful, community-centered applied research and practice. In the past year the School's research portfolio has grown by 189 percent.  CUNY SPH continues to evolve and respond to the changing face of public health, growing and modifying its programs to ensure graduates are optimally equipped to meet tomorrow's pressing public health challenges.

 

CUNY SPH is seeking to hire four tenure track faculty members at the Assistant Professor level, one in each of the following areas of specialization: 

  • Reducing urban health inequities Climate change, public health and disaster preparedness Health Informatics Organizational and workplace health

 

We are interested in recruiting public health teacher-scholar-practitioners who will help to shape the future of our School. Successful candidates will be expected to play a role in creating new initiatives and enhancing existing educational programs, obtaining funding acquisition in promising educational and research areas, and developing collaborative relationships within CUNY and with external partners.

 

This position is based in New York City and will start in either Spring or Fall 2023.

Tenure track faculty receive contractually reassigned eighteen credits of research release time within the first five years of employment and six credits of research release after tenure in order to engage in scholarly activities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates are required to have a doctoral degree, teaching experience , especially at the masters and doctoral levels, and a record of funded research and scholarly publications, commensurate with career stage.  We are looking for candidates who have enthusiasm and commitment to teaching and to students; a willingness to participate in course and program development; potential to seek and/or secure extramural funding,  develop and maintain an active research and academic publication agenda in at least one of the fields described above or a closely related field.  Successful candidates will demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work with others for the good of the institution, as well as a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR REDUCING URBAN HEALTH INEQUITIES

  • Active research portfolio in planning, implementation or evaluation of programs and policies to improve the health of one or more (urban) populations (e.g., LGBTQI, people of color, immigrants, young people)
  • Experience collaborating with communities, organizations, other researchers and/or students on practice-oriented, community-based, community participatory, or implementation science research
  • Commitment to contributing to antiracist pedagogy within the school 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR CLIMATE CHANGE, PUBLIC HEALTH and DISASTER PREPAREDNESS

  • Expertise in one of the following areas: big data and artificial intelligence computational methods for exposure assessment and health outcomes of climate change, infectious diseases and/or disaster preparedness
  • Post-doctoral training is preferred
  • Strong scholar productivity, experience and potential to seek and/or secure extramural funding
  • Experience and potential for excellence in multimodal graduate and doctoral instruction and innovative pedagogies

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR HEALTH INFORMATICS

  • A doctoral degree in Informatics or a related field of study.  For those with doctoral degrees in related fields, additional training in heath informatics, such as a Master’s degree or Postdoctoral training would be helpful Evidence of independent and collaborative public/population health informatics research potential Preference will be given to candidates with experience or interest in integrating informatics with other public/population health research methods such as epidemiology and statistics

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR ORGANIZATIONAL AND WORKPLACE HEALTH

  • A doctoral degree in public health, industrial-organizational psychology, management or a related field
  • Record of intervention and/or policy research in workplace health and organizational change
  • Record of teaching or demonstrated expertise in organizational management and change, including theories, frameworks and methods in relation to finance, people, policy, organizational culture and/or innovation processes
  • Demonstrated expertise in mixed methods research (quantitative and qualitative)

 

COMPENSATION

Salary commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience.

 

Salary Range: $90,375 - $115,000 for a nine-month work year that is paid over the 12-month calendar year.
