Applications are invited for a tenure-track assistant professor position in the broad area of organic chemistry, to start August 14, 2023. This is a standard nine-month faculty appointment. This position is in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas, a Carnegie R1 (Very High Research Activity) campus with an enrollment of approximately 31,000. The successful candidate will be expected to establish a nationally recognized research program and to teach organic chemistry effectively at the graduate and undergraduate levels.

The University of Arkansas is making significant research investment in the broadly defined areas of metabolism, neuroscience, materials, food systems, and data science. A $194.7 million grant has created the Institute for Integrative and Innovative Research (I3R): (https://www.uark.edu/research/i3r/index.php). Applicants with research interests in these five areas would be candidates for I3R support. A grant from NIH has recently established the Arkansas Integrative Metabolic Research Center and applicants in this area would also be eligible for support in this center. ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is part of the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas.  Enrollment at the University in Fall 2022 was 30,936.  The Department has approximately 26 tenured or tenure track faculty, 6 hard-funded full-time non-tenure track instructional faculty, 6 hard-funded full-time administrative staff, 3 hard-funded full-time scientific staff, 4-8 soft-funded instructors and scientific staff, several research-active emeritus faculty, and is home to the Arkansas State-Wide Mass Spectrometry Facility and its 2 additional hard-funded scientific staff.

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is housed in the historic Chemistry Building with additional research laboratories in the Chemistry and Biochemistry Research Building and teaching laboratories in Discovery Hall. The three buildings comprise 468 rooms and 166,003 gross square feet. Department has typically over 400 majors enrolled and taught 24,177 SSCH in 2021-22, approximately 3.1% of all SSCH production or one out of every 31.7 credit hours taught by the entire University of Arkansas.
