The Department of Chemistry at Rutgers University, Camden plans to make a tenure track appointment at the Assistant level to commence on Sept 1, 2023, or shortly thereafter. The appointment will be in the broadly defined areas of Biochemistry or Chemical Biology.
The candidate is expected to establish an externally funded research program and participate in the Chemistry Department’s undergraduate and graduate teaching mission. The teaching load is 2 courses per semester, with possible course releases for administrative duties.
Collaborative opportunities outside of the Department are encouraged and are available with science faculty affiliated with the Center of Computational & Integrative Biology, Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics Forensic Sciences and Biology.
The incumbent faculty member shall:
- Build a robust, independent and nationally recognized research program
- Pursue and be successful in acquiring internal and external funding, and publish in peer-reviewed journals
- Mentor undergraduate and graduate students in independent projects related to chemistry and closely related fields
- Maintain a rigorous and robust teaching program in biochemistry and related sub-disciplines
- Be familiar with and teach to the educational requirements and expectations associated with American Chemical Society (ACS) accreditation, and develop course content that meets these requirements
- Share in departmental, college and external service, including mentoring or training, if applicable, junior members of the department, part-time laboratory staff, lecturers, or teaching assistants.
- Aid in the maintenance and management of laboratories, shared facilities, instrumentation or space
Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related field such as biomedical engineering. The successful candidate will have demonstrated excellence in both research that incorporates a chemical approach to biomedical, biotechnological, bioinorganic, pharmaceutical sciences. Excellence in research will be demonstrated by publications in field-relevant academic journals as appropriate for this stage of career; research that targets such publication venues; presentations at significant disciplinary conferences; grants or awards as appropriate for stage of career; current and past awards; and strong endorsements by referees who maintain national stature in their sub-disciplines. Evidence for excellence will be provided through strong letters of reference; a research statement; and a teaching statement.
The successful applicant should have a proven record of professional biochemistry and chemistry related activities such as research and research network activities, publications, presentations, projects, mentoring, etc.
