The incumbent is a Research Chemist in the National Center for Agricultural Utilization Research, Bio-Oils Research (BOR) Unit in Peoria, Illinois. The overall mission of BOR is to conduct basic and applied research on chemical, physical, and biochemical modification of new
crop oils and other plant components to develop new industrial products. This research is a component of ARS National Program 306 - Product Quality and New Uses.
Major Duties:
- Analyze fatty acid compositions of new plant oils, lipids, used cooking oils, and waste greases.
- Measure relevant physical properties.
- Separate and pretreat oils from feedstocks for conversion to novel products.
- Synthesize biobased fuels, lubricants, lubricant additives, and cosmetics.
- Evaluate properties of biobased fluids, formulations, and other products.
