Position Summary:

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry in the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science at Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton, FL, invites applications for two non-tenure-track Instructor positions starting in the summer 2023. These positions will contribute to the teaching and service mission of the Department by meeting the instructional demand in mostly lower division chemistry courses. The major responsibilities will be teaching a combination of general chemistry, introductory chemistry, biochemistry, and other courses as appropriate to the individual's background and the needs of the department. These positions will play a significant role toward the growth and improvement of our undergraduate chemistry program and the building of a strong teaching/learning culture in the department. A strong commitment to undergraduate teaching is required.

Chemistry Instructors will be responsible for the following:

Plan and teach assigned classes, including general chemistry, introductory chemistry, biochemistry, or other courses as appropriate to the individual's background and the needs of the department.

Maintain regular office hours for student advising and consultation.

Evaluate the academic progress of students.

Submit course grades and perform other administrative duties as required.

Participate in curriculum and/or program development, as assigned.

Conduct scholarship/research activities in chemical education.

Serve on appropriate department, college, and university committees.

Qualifications: A Ph.D. degree in any area of chemistry, biochemistry or a closely related discipline is preferred at the time of application. Candidates should have strong written and verbal communication skills. Candidates should demonstrate skill in the understanding of cultural differences and be able to foster and create educational opportunities where all student populations thrive.
