The positions are part of the UVA Cancer Center investment in drug discovery, as well as a component of the University's new Grand Challenge Research Initiatives focus on precision medicine.

These new faculty members will join a vibrant, interdisciplinary research community in the Department of Chemistry and be important members of the UVA Comprehensive Cancer Center. Both positions will be open to any rank (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor) with the rank and tenure status being commensurate with experience level. Primary appointment will be in the Department of Chemistry with joint appointments in the School of Medicine possible.

Candidates must have a PhD in chemistry or a related field at the time of appointment, a record of excellence in scientific research, and a commitment to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Candidates should have a well-documented track record of medicinal chemistry efforts and preference, especially for senior candidates, will go to those with demonstrated ability to progress hits to leads, particularly with cancer-relevant targets. Applicants with demonstrated expertise in modern medicinal chemistry approaches including, but not limited to, PROTACs, molecular glues, chemoproteomics, and covalent inhibitors are particularly sought. Applicants with a focus on novel targets are also particularly sought. For applicants at the Associate Professor or Professor level, those with a documented record of past and ongoing excellence in research and external funding will be prioritized. In line with UVA's commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion, both broadly across the university and in STEM fields, applicants should highlight in their application evidence of commitment to diversity and inclusion to accelerate equity for underrepresented groups.
