The Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at The University of Kansas (Lawrence) invites applications and nominations for two positions at the Assistant Professor level. The successful candidates should have established research interest in the design, chemistry, delivery, analysis, and pharmacokinetics of Advanced Drug Modalities, which include research areas in (a) Biopharmaceutics: vaccines, antibody-drug conjugates, antibody engineering, CRISPR, oligonucleotides, stabilized peptides, prodrugs; b) Advanced analytics and pharmaceutical simulations: analytical chemistry, PBPK modeling, artificial intelligence, machine learning (ML-based drug discovery and PBPK); and (c) Advanced manufacturing: solid state dosage forms, 3D printed materials and formulations. The successful candidates for the positions must be eligible to work in the U.S. prior to the start date of the position.
The Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry is one of four departments in the School of Pharmacy of The University of Kansas, with the others being Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmacology and Toxicology, and Pharmacy Practice.
In addition to its involvement in the professional pharmacy program (Pharm.D.) within the School of Pharmacy, the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, which has currently 13 faculty, maintains active programs in research (approx. $4.0 million per year of external support) and graduate training (approx. 35 predoctoral students, 20 masters students, and 25 postdoctoral associates). The Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry hosts the Vaccine Analysis and Formulation Center (VAFC), which specializes in the characterization, stabilization and formulation of vaccines and biopharmaceutical drug candidates. The general research areas emphasized in the Department include: physical pharmacy (with emphasis on the application of physical, physical organic and organic chemistry to pharmaceutical problems in solution, polymers and the solid state), cellular and molecular biopharmaceutics (with emphasis on the application of cell biology to pharmaceutical problems, including drug delivery and cellular drug compartmentalization), macromolecular pharmaceutics (with emphasis on the application of biophysical chemistry and nanotechnology to pharmaceutical problems), bioanalysis (with emphasis on the application of analytical chemistry to pharmaceutical problems), and vaccine design, delivery and formulation. The Department is also the home of the Globalization of Pharmaceutics Education Network (GPEN), a distance masters and PhD program, and has a strong commitment to Global Health education and research.
In a continuing effort to enrich its academic environment and provide equal educational and employment opportunities, the university actively encourages applications from members of underrepresented groups in higher education. The successful candidate for the position must be eligible to work in the U.S. prior to the start date of the position.
