Duties & Responsibilities:
· Laboratory Development: In consultation with the course instructor on record and/or the Science Departments, the Teaching Laboratory Specialist (TLS) may help develop content and evaluations for laboratory courses, including but not limited to, the selection of laboratory experiments, the pre- and post-laboratory assignments, and laboratory lectures.
· Laboratory Delivery: 1. Perform all preparations for science labs as needed, including but not limited to, assembling supplies, general laboratory experiment set-up, equipment maintenance, reagent/solution preparation(s), clean-up/take-down, and waste handling.
· Laboratory Delivery: 2. Provide the laboratory instruction for five to six lab sections per semester. The laboratory instruction will not cover more than two different types of laboratory courses, unless the coursework is similar in content, course preparation, and does not put an undue burden on the TLS.
a. Presentation of laboratory lectures.
b. Execution and/or demonstration of laboratory experiments.
c. Supervision of student’s laboratory work.
· Laboratory Delivery: 3. Provide student(s) assessments, including, but not limited to, grading, providing critical feedback, and maintaining office hours.
· Science Technical Support Perform related duties as assigned by their supervisor that support the overall mission of the Science curricula at UIS. These duties may include, but are not limited to, reorganization and cataloging of laboratory materials and supplies, reorganization of laboratory equipment, and general laboratory maintenance.
