Analytical Chemist
Budgeted Salary Range: Initial placement will be between $27.09 – $29.90/Hour, commensurate with educational background and working experience.
Under general direction of the supervisor, this position is responsible for the performance of organic and inorganic analyses for the determination of industrial and naturally occurring toxins in animal tissues, biological specimens and source material. The position is responsible for maintaining quality control and participating in the update and development of analytical procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience preparing analytical reagents, solutions, controls and standards.
• Knowledge of sample preparation techniques used for the analysis of organic and/or inorganic chemicals in biological and/or food samples such as solid phase and liquid-liquid sample extraction, acid digestion, sample spiking and matrix matching.
• Skill in the operation of a wide range of manual and computer-controlled analytical equipment including Gas Chromatographs, Liquid Chromatographs, Mass Spectrometers, ICPs, Centrifuges, etc.
• Skill to perform mathematical calculations necessary to prepare chemical solutions at specific concentrations and to calculate concentrations of detected residues in samples.
• Data entry skills to quickly/accurately enter test results into a computerized database.
• Knowledge of QA/QC concepts and ability to apply this knowledge to continuously produce high quality data.
Preferred:
• Experience working in a laboratory focused on performing testing for individual clients on a time restricted basis
• Experience working with animal tissues.
• Experience operating mass spectrometers.
