Job Details

A postdoctoral position is available in the Bowers Lab in the Division of Chemical Biology and Medicinal Chemistry and the Center for Integrated Chemical Biology and Drug Discovery (CICBDD) at UNC–CH.  The major focus of research in the Bowers lab is development of chemistry and biotechnology for drug discovery and development, especially in the area of mRNA display and other display based technologies.  We exploit these technologies to create next-generation therapeutics through a focused set of collaborations with both industry and academic labs.  For more information on our research please check our website (http://bowerslab.web.unc.edu) or e-mail Prof. Bowers directly (abower2@email.unc.edu).  We are seeking highly skilled and motivated individuals with backgrounds in synthetic chemistry and/or biochemistry/assay development.  UNC-CH is located near Research Triangle Park and provides a dynamic environment for those interested in cutting edge research at the interface of chemistry and biology.  Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree in chemistry or related field and should send by email a single PDF file including a curriculum vitae and research summary to Prof. Albert Bowers (abower2@email.unc.edu). Additional details about this position can be found at https://unc.peopleadmin.com/postings/248362. UNC-CH is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer.

Company

Research in the Division of Chemical Biology and Medicinal Chemistry at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy spans activities in contemporary chemical biology and drug discovery and blends the principles and experimental techniques of chemistry and biology with computational science. While maintaining a traditional emphasis on the drug candidate, we integrate contemporary biological methods to merge small molecule and target biomolecule research. This approach allows for elucidation of disease pathways and mechanisms of drug action. Our program encompasses nearly all aspects of drug discovery, including bioactive natural products, organic chemistry, computational drug design, assay development, high throughput screening of chemical libraries, and studies in living cells. This position is a joint appointment with the Center for Integrative Chemical Biology and Drug Discovery (CICBDD). The CICBDD was created with the mission of bringing dedicated medicinal chemistry expertise to bear on biological targets of therapeutic relevance under investigation by UNC faculty. Synthetic chemists, assay development and compound profiling scientists work in the Center and create dedicated, multidisciplinary project teams with other groups on campus in order to progress targets through the drug discovery and development process. The Center provides leadership of the North Carolina Comprehensive Chemical Biology Center, a member of NCI’s Chemical Biology Consortium.
