Job Details

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Texas at Austin is recruiting qualified candidates for a full-time, non-tenure track faculty position for the 2023-2024 academic year at all ranks.  Candidates with a strong track record of university teaching experience may be considered for hiring at the rank of Associate Professor of Instruction or Professor of Instruction.

Primary duties for this position include teaching general and/or organic undergraduate lecture courses.  Other course assignments may be possible depending on department needs and the candidate’s qualifications.  The successful candidate will be expected to teach multiple courses each semester, participate in course development activities, conduct regular office hour and review sessions, manage teaching assistants, and coordinate lessons with colleagues.  Service on departmental committees, participation in peer teaching observations, and involvement in curriculum development efforts are also expected.

All ranks carry a nine-month appointment, renewed annually based on demonstrated teaching excellence and need of the department.

The ranks of Associate Professor of Instruction or Professor of Instruction carry an initial fixed-term nine-month appointment.  A candidate hired at the rank of Associate or Full Professor of Instruction may have their contract renewed annually as a rolling contract upon successful completion of their first year of teaching.  Rolling contracts are extended annually, on a two- or three-year basis, depending on rank.

The University is interested in and values candidates who have experience working with diverse and underserved populations, and have demonstrated a commitment to improving the diversity, equity and inclusivity of their academic communities.
