The Department of Chemistry at Hampden-Sydney College invites applications from outstanding candidates for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in inorganic chemistry beginning August 2023.  In addition to introductory and advanced inorganic chemistry, teaching responsibilities may include general chemistry and its lab and/or advanced courses in the candidate’s specialty. The position also entails directing undergraduate research projects. The teaching load is seven courses over the year, with lecture and laboratory offerings given equal weight. The major in chemistry is approved by the American Chemical Society, and the major in biochemistry and molecular biology is accredited by the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. 




Students enjoy the department’s unique laboratory program composed of eight semester-long research-style projects, the last four of which are directed independent research projects.  The department, which has mentored three Goldwater Scholars in the past eight years, is equipped with research grade instruments and has a burgeoning instrument endowment.  We moved into a new building, the Pauley Science Center, in the summer of 2022.  The College supports faculty research with summer research awards, and it supports student research with a vibrant funded summer research program.
