Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Establish an innovative bioprocess engineering research program that develops and applies innovative computational/modeling and experimental tools to solve problems at the interface of engineering and biology that are critical to life sciences and agriculture locally and nationally. This research may contribute to novel utilization of renewable agricultural bioresources for producing useful food and non-food bioproducts that strengthen agriculture and food systems; enhance sustainability, food security, and climate change mitigation; or potentially support local economic and workforce development. Research areas of particular interest include (but are not limited to): artificial intelligence/machine learning in bioprocess engineering, quantitative synthetic/systems biology, systems modeling or design/analysis of industrial bioprocesses or cellular/metabolic processes, and design and development/synthesis of novel biomaterials/biobased products by merging engineering and biochemical principles.
2. Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in biological engineering and biotechnology. Serve the department’s undergraduate programs in Biological Engineering (BE) and Molecular Biosciences and Biotechnology (MBB). Courses may vary depending on needs of the department and students. Be involved with undergraduate and graduate student advising and recruitment for the department.
3. Garner extramural funding to support the research program.
4. Provide service to the department, college, university, and professional community.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Doctorate from a college or university of recognized standing in biological engineering, chemical engineering, or another allied field. All But Dissertation (ABD) candidates may be considered, but all degree requirements must be completed at the time of hire.
2. Baccalaureate from a college or university of recognized standing in engineering or another allied field.
3. Demonstrated skills/potential as a teacher.
4. Demonstrated scholarly achievement.
Desirable Qualifications:
1. A successful record of grantsmanship.
2. Previous teaching experience in engineering design and analysis.
3. Previous experience in supervising students in research projects.
4. Progress towards obtaining licensure as a Professional Engineer.
5. Postdoctoral research experience or equivalent.
6. Demonstrated commitment to teaching students from different backgrounds with diverse life experiences and learning styles.
7. Excellent communication skills for meeting and conferring with diverse colleagues, students, and community members.
