Open Rank Faculty Position (Tenured/Tenure-Track)

Division of Chemical Biology and Medicinal Chemistry,

UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy,

University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

The Division of Chemical Biology and Medicinal Chemistry (CBMC) (https://pharmacy.unc.edu/divisions/cbmc/) in the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy (https://pharmacy.unc.edu) invites applications for a 12-month tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level. The ideal candidate will have research expertise in medicinal chemistry and chemical biology and a commitment to the field of open science and open drug discovery. Candidates with an active research focus in the identification of dark kinases driving neurodegeneration, CNS disorders, and replication of viruses of pandemic potential through the design of small molecule inhibitors and/or bifunctional degraders targeting novel E3 ligases for use in stem cells, primary neurons, and phenotypic assays are encouraged to apply. We are seeking highly collaborative candidates who have already established or possess the potential to establish an innovative, competitive, and independent research program. Candidates are expected to contribute to the education and training of students in the Doctor of Pharmaceutical Sciences (PhD) graduate program, the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) professional program, and postdoctoral fellows in the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy and will operate as a full time member and provide scientific leadership within CBMC’s Structural Genomics Consortium open science research center (https://pharmacy.unc.edu/research/centers/sgc-unc/).

CBMC is composed of more than 30 faculty with research strengths in the synthesis and structure-activity characterization of pharmaceutically relevant small molecules, the chemical biology of designed small-molecule ligands and their cognate drug targets, combinatorial biochemistry and proteomics, structural biology, chemo- and bioinformatics, and molecular modeling. Faculty enjoy collaborative opportunities with CBMC’s Structural Genomics Consortium (https://pharmacy.unc.edu/research/centers/sgc-unc/ ) and the Center for Integrative Chemical Biology and Drug Discovery (https://cicbdd.web.unc.edu), UNC’s five health science schools, and a stimulating regional research environment in the Research Triangle Park.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. degree in PhD in Chemistry, or closely related field of study.

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to age, color, disability, gender, gender expression, gender identity, genetic information, race, national origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or status as a protected veteran.

Applications in PDF format including cover letter, CV, detailed statement of research program and interests, and the names and contact information of four professional references should be submitted to  https://unc.peopleadmin.com/postings/248743.
