Principal Chemist (Analytical)

ChampionX is hiring for a Principal Chemist position for the Sugar Land, TX location.  This is an on-site (non-remote) position in the research, development & engineering department.  Specific details are as follows:

Qualifications

B.S. and 5-7 years

Or

M.S. and 3-5 years

Or

PhD and <2 years

Candidate has general experience in multiple facets of the new product development, launch, or support process or specialized knowledge in one area.

Scope of Responsibility

Candidate leads or acts as a key technical contributor on projects/experiments/research of moderate scope and complexity with high impact on the business.  Acts with considerable latitude in determining technical approach required to meet desired objectives.

Technical/Functional Knowledge

Candidate demonstrates full use and application of scientific, project management, design excellence, and other principles, theories and concepts to assignments where precedents may exist plus working knowledge of other related disciplines

Innovation/Problem Solving

Candidate provides solutions to a wide range of difficult problems such as the design of complex systems and programs and/or the resolution of problems requiring state of the art awareness of the terminology.  Demonstrates initiative and creativity in identifying and trying new and different approaches.

Customer Understanding

Candidate has a solid understanding of our customers (internal and external) products and available technologies to effectively identify creative solutions that meet customer requirements.  Demonstrates the ability to translate understanding of customers into new solutions or product ideas.

Leadership/Management

Candidate may supervise others or serve as a technical resource and mentor in area of expertise.  Acts as a project or technical lead for strategic projects.

Specific qualifications for this position:

We are seeking a candidate with strong analytical skills in the areas of gas and liquid chromatographic techniques (HPLC, GC, IC, etc), NMR (¹H, ¹³C, etc), mass spectroscopy (including GC-MS & LC-MS), volumetric analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), water analysis, x-ray techniques (XRF, powder diffraction) and gravimetric analysis.  Candidate must be skilled in modern analytical data collection and analysis, and have strong data work up expertise, including statistical background and methodology.
