Louisiana State University invites applications for the position of the Dean, College of the Coast & Environment (CC&E). The Dean reports directly to the Executive Vice President and Provost and serves as the college’s Chief Executive Officer. The Dean provides ultimate administrative oversight for all aspects of academic life within the college, including strategic planning, fiscal management, diversity initiatives, personnel development, academic programs, research enterprises, and student enrollment. The Dean will formulate and administer policies for the college, either on their initiative or as directed by an appropriate authority, with due consideration for the prerogatives of the faculty about educational policy. The Dean also has primary responsibilities for external initiatives, including community outreach and development.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Provides leadership for all academic matters of the college, including research trajectories, educational programs, and recruiting, retaining, and graduating undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Oversees the college’s personnel, including hiring, caring for, and retaining faculty and staff, preparing annual evaluations, evaluating promotion and tenure dossiers, and supporting professional development.
  • Demonstrates deep commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity in its broadest terms across all college sectors, including but not limited to curriculum, programming, and representations of staff and faculty, to name a few, and effectively represents the college’s best interest internally and externally.
  • Grows college’s fundraising and leads alumni relations.
  • Provides strategic direction and oversight for the operating budget and endowment.
  • Represents the College of the Coast and Environment on the Dean’s Council, Provost’s Leadership Team, and University Council.

From the college’s location at Louisiana State University, along the banks of the Mississippi River, the College of the Coast & Environment (CC&E) has a front-row seat to coastal and environmental changes impacting our state, nation, and world. Common stressors include coastal land loss, pollution, and severe weather events, among others. CC&E’s long and rich history of coastal and environmental research discoveries advances knowledge about these stressors and their relationship with lives, livelihoods, and recreation. This research provides sound science so that stakeholders can make informed decisions. Working alongside world-renowned multidisciplinary experts, the college’s graduates acquire the skills and abilities to tackle complex coastal environmental challenges.

The college has two departments, Oceanography & Coastal Sciences (DOCS) and Environmental Sciences (DES). DOCS has 29 faculty members, and the DES has 15 faculty members. There are 200 undergraduate, 113 graduate, and 56 online MS students. The college offers seven degree programs, three undergraduate and two graduate minors, and three graduate certificates.
