Teaching Postdoctoral Faculty Fellow of Organic Chemistry

Summary:

William Paterson University seeks applications from outstanding candidates for a Postdoctoral Fellow of Organic Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry of the College of Science and Health. Applications from all areas of organic chemistry will be considered but research experience in areas such as organic synthesis, catalysis, bioorganic chemistry, green chemistry, bio-nanochemistry and materials chemistry is a plus. As a public university serving a highly-diverse student population, William Paterson University seeks to intentionally support the mentoring and development of faculty, particularly faculty of underrepresented backgrounds.

The Fellow will be appointed for two academic years in a non-tenure-track teaching position (NTTP) under New Jersey's statewide contract, with full benefits and competitive salaries. . Appointment to the second year will follow a mid-year review. Fellows teach a 3/3 load during the time of their appointments, with departmental research support. Following successful reappointment to a second year of the fellowship, and by mutual agreement between the department and the Fellow, the department may request conversion of the fellowship to a tenure-track line.

The University will provide the Fellow a structured program of focused mentorship, pedagogical support, and an introduction to university and professional service. The goals of the fellows program are (a) to support the career success of selected candidates, (b) to advance the University's commitment to building a diverse campus community, and (c) to expand the University's pool of highly qualified candidates for faculty positions.

Start date is fall 2023.

Department Overview:

The Department of Chemistry provides the opportunity for degrees at the BS and MS level. Our programs are approved by American Chemical Society. The Chemistry Department prepares students for challenging careers in a wide variety of science, technology, and related fields. Most WP chemistry students are employed in industry or accepted into a graduate program within three months of completion of their degree. The department is very well equipped with modern instrumentation including 400 MHZ NMR (solid and diffusion), HPLC-UPLC, GPC, GCMS, MALDI-TOFF, FT-IR's, UV-Vis (solid and liquid) and AFM. Imaging facilities (TEM and SEM) are also available for teaching and research.

Duties:

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Teaching:

• Teach graduate and/or undergraduate courses, online, hybrid or face-to-face as per department needs.
• Using approved course outlines as a guide, develop relevant syllabi in order to deploy course content, objectives, and methods of student assessment
• Contribute to student success by providing consistent and effective support and guidance through role modeling and mentoring and being available to the students for their questions and needs.
• Support students in their academic endeavors and enable students to develop strong communication and technology skills in a highly collaborative learning environment.

Scholarship:

• A strong commitment to establishing a research program involving undergraduates and MS students is required.
• Involvement in research, writing, and creative efforts aimed at quality research publications as well as external and internal grant submissions.

Service:

• Participate in the variety of service opportunities within the department, college, and university community including advising and mentoring students where appropriate.
• Engage in assessment of student learning as well as program and accreditation assessment and reporting requirements.
• Attend department and college meetings as required and engage in activities of the department.

Qualifications:

Required and Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or closely related field
• Strong commitment to hands on laboratory teaching involving students

Preferred Qualifications:

Ph. D. in Organic Chemistry
