The National Cancer Institute's (NCI) Chemical Biology Laboratory (CBL) is seeking an outstanding scientist to lead an independent research group focused on any area of chemical biology. This is an open search at both the Senior Investigator or Investigator levels; these positions are equivalent to tenured Associate/Full and Assistant professors in academia, respectively.

We seek candidates who will complement our group of dynamic and collaborative chemical biologists (https://ccr.cancer.gov/chemical-biology-laboratory). The selected individual will lead an independent world-class research program supported by generous and stable resources. These include access to a wide range of NCI technology platforms and interdisciplinary collaborations within the entire National Institutes of Health (NIH), including its world renown Clinical Center. The CBL resides within the Center for Cancer Research (CCR), which is part of the NCI's intramural program. The CCR is home to nearly 250 basic and clinical research groups located on three campuses just outside of Washington, D.C. The CCR makes up the largest component of the research effort at the NIH. Centrally supported by long-term funding and a culture of intellectual freedom, CCR scientists pursue the most important and challenging problems in cancer research. The CCR research portfolio covers the full spectrum of biomedical research, ranging from basic discovery to full therapeutic translation. The success of the CCR is grounded in this concept that provides its investigators the foundation for the seamless translation of their discoveries from the bench to the bedside. For an overview of CCR, please visit http://ccr.cancer.gov/.

The CBL is located on the NCI-Frederick campus which houses state-of-the-art facilities containing all the necessary resources for world-class chemical biology research, including, but not limited to: Small/large molecule NMR, X-ray crystallography, high throughput screening, and biophysical instrumentation. In addition, the campus offers access to several biologically-oriented core facilities dedicated to protein production and structure determination, imaging, microscopy, proteomics, genomics, genome modification, flow cytometry and bioinformatics/biostatistics.

Individuals that currently hold, or are seeking, academic positions are encouraged to apply. Applicants should hold a Ph.D. degree in chemistry or relevant discipline. Salary will be commensurate with experience. A full civil service package of benefits (including health insurance, life insurance, and retirement) is available. Candidates may be U.S. citizens, U.S. permanent residents, or eligible for a visa that will enable work in the United States.

Interested candidates should submit the following materials:

  • Letter of interest, including a career synopsis (maximum 2 pages)
  • Statement of research interests (maximum 3 pages)
  • Statement of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) involvement (maximum 2 pages)
  • Current curriculum vitae (CV) and complete bibliography.

Applications should be submitted electronically to https://service.cancer.gov/ccr-careers and will be accepted until the position is filled. Review of applications will begin approximately mid-May 2023.
