Trinity College: Two Positions
The Trinity College Chemistry Department, which is committed to ensuring the success of the diverse and talented students in our classrooms and laboratories, invites applications for two positions, a full-time, renewable lecturer and laboratory coordinator and a one-year full-time visiting assistant professor that begin in August 2023.
For the lecturer and laboratory coordinator position we seek a candidate who has a Ph.D. in chemistry, although candidates with a Master’s degree and significant teaching experience will be considered. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to teach laboratory courses in introductory chemistry, develop and implement new experiments, and hire and train student teaching assistants. Additional activities include collaborating with the Chemistry Department faculty, ordering equipment and supplies, preparation and set-up for each experiment, routine maintenance of instrumentation used in the laboratories, grading of laboratory assignments, and editing of the laboratory manual. The department uses a guided-inquiry approach where student laboratory data plays a central role in student learning. We are seeking a candidate who is committed to helping students learn how to gather quality data and properly interpret it.
For the visiting assistant professor position we seek a candidate who has a Ph.D. in chemistry and a demonstrated ability to teach introductory and/or organic chemistry, including lecture and laboratory courses. Because our department utilizes a guided-inquiry (discovery) based pedagogy for our introductory and organic courses, the successful candidate should embrace this method of engaging all students in the learning process.
The Trinity Chemistry Department offers majors in Chemistry and Biochemistry, with two tracks in Biochemistry (Traditional and Neurobiochemistry). The department also possesses excellent modern research instruments available for use by students and faculty. A description of these instruments can be found at https://commons.trincoll.edu/chemistry/instruments/
To apply, please submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, undergraduate and graduate transcripts, a statement on your teaching philosophy, and contact information for a minimum of three reference letter writers. The teaching statement must include a description of how your teaching will engage the diverse student body at Trinity College. All the application materials should be submitted at https://trincoll.peopleadmin.com. Questions about the position can be directed to the Chair of the Chemistry Department, Professor Timothy Curran (timothy.curran@trincoll.edu).
