The University of Maine at Farmington (UMF), Division of Natural Sciences is seeking applicants for a two-year, fixed-length position, beginning September 1, 2023. Teaching duties are at the undergraduate level and will involve teaching both lectures and labs for our general chemistry sequence taken by all first-year science majors in biology, geology, and environmental science programs. The successful applicant will also serve as Chemical Hygiene Officer for the division, overseeing chemical safety and the proper disposal of chemical waste and biowaste. A full-time, twelve-credit-hour teaching load will include in-person and/or online instruction. UMF faculty are expected to be excellent teachers, responsive to changing professional needs, committed to innovative delivery of instruction resulting in improved student learning and committed to effective use of technology. Additionally, this position will provide service to the University, by participating in admissions events and interacting with the internal and external community in a collegial and professional manner.  

UMF serves a mix of traditional and non-traditional students and offers a wide array of liberal arts and professional programs leading to certificates, baccalaureate, and master's degrees. The University offers general education and degree-specific courses using modalities including in-person, hyflex, video conferencing, and online instruction.

This position reports to the Division Chair.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Master's Degree or ABD (all but dissertation) in Chemistry or related discipline. Either must be met no later than the position start date.

Preferred:

  • Ph.D in chemistry or related discipline.
  • One year of teaching experience.
