Job Details

The Chemistry and Biochemistry Department at Rose-Hulman is searching for inspiring educators at a rank commensurate with experience who share our passion for undergraduate education. Our teaching-focused mission is “to provide students with the world’s best undergraduate science, engineering, and mathematics education in an environment of individual attention and support.” We encourage applications from those who want to positively impact the lives of undergraduates through a hands-on curriculum in new, state-of-the-art teaching laboratories.

The essential job responsibilities of the visiting position are classroom and laboratory instruction for a full academic year. Teaching responsibilities will include general chemistry and a two-course sequence in undergraduate inorganic chemistry with corresponding laboratories. Rose-Hulman is on the quarter system and has an average class size of 20-25 students per section, so there is an opportunity to get to know your students and hone your teaching strategy to maximize their learning. We are a collegial and supportive department who is committed to helping you achieve success with new course preparation. We also provide some limited support for continuing your research or professional development activities. There are no service or academic advising expectations. The anticipated start date is August 2023.

The Chemistry and Biochemistry Department consists of eleven faculty and offers two degrees, a B.S. in Chemistry, and a B.S. in Biochemistry. Both degrees are certified by ACS. Essential job responsibilities include teaching and advising students and continued professional development. Specializations in any area of chemistry are welcome, but the ability to teach advanced undergraduate inorganic chemistry lecture and laboratory courses is preferred.

Requirements include a doctorate or near completion in chemistry, biochemistry, or closely related field. The department and the institute also place a high value on engaging students from traditionally underrepresented groups, and candidates from these groups are especially encouraged to apply. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Applicants should submit the following information via https://jobs.rose-hulman.edu.

  • a CV/resume
  • cover letter
  • statement of teaching philosophy
  • statement demonstrating your commitment to Diversity and Inclusion, which should highlight your particular strengths, experiences, or perspectives that might serve to broaden and enhance our students’ educational experience

Applicants who advance through the initial screening will be asked for three references who will submit recommendation letters.
