Job Details
Located 36 miles east of Atlanta, Oxford College of Emory University invites applications for a full-time, benefits eligible, Laboratory Coordinator/ Adjunct Assistant Professor of Chemistry to begin August 2023. This position may be renewed for up to three years, pending enrollment, continuing curricular need, and performance evaluations. This opening is at the Oxford College campus in Oxford, Georgia, located 36 miles east of Atlanta. The primary teaching responsibilities of this position are multiple sections of a second-year chemistry laboratory course focused on macromolecules. In fall semesters, the person in this position will teach one section of the corresponding lecture course. The Laboratory Coordinator responsibilities involve coordination of the teaching laboratories for this course, laboratory preparation, administration of the laboratory Learning Management System (Canvas) site, equipment maintenance, ordering, compliance with environmental health and safety, and training and supervision of undergraduate student workers. Emory University has recently implemented an HHMI funded curriculum redesign with an emphasis on the first two years of the chemistry major. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to help shape the laboratory curriculum of the future in Oxford College’s state-of-the-art science facility designed to promote student-faculty collaboration, scholarship, and innovative teaching in STEM.
Qualifications
A Ph.D. or ABD in biochemistry or a closely related area with specific laboratory skills in molecular biology including the expression, purification, and characterization of bacterial proteins.
Desirable: Experience training undergraduate students in the laboratory, interest in teaching and developing discovery-based laboratory experiences for undergraduates, and experience with the characterization of various types of biological polymers.
