The person filling this position will prepare compounds, test solutions and reagents to conduct tests and experiments, then advising and coordinating on test procedures duties include examining the chemical make-up of different materials, performing quality control tests on current experiments and creating technical reports and papers on the specifications and outcomes of tests, products and processes. Develop new formulas or adjust current formulas as need to support growth in the beauty care industry.  The candidate for this position is required to maintain accurate and efficient laboratory records and ensure operations adhere to Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP). Additionally, is to ensure timely and appropriate release of, Bulk Formula (BF) batch instructions for efficient production costing and operations.

 

This position requires knowledge of:

  • Prepare compounds, test solutions and reagents to conduct tests and experiments, then advising and coordinating on test procedures.
  • Determine the relationships of chemical and physical properties, composition, structures, and reactions of organic and inorganic compounds.
  • Develop, improve and customize products, formulas, analytical methods and processes
  • Consult with engineers and scientists on analysis, interpretation, and development of tests
  • Document findings in technical papers and reports, preparing specifications and testing standards
  • Clean and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment, making sure that all the technology is working correctly, if it isn’t, troubleshoot the issue or problem.
  • Conduct quality control tests to ensure no compounds or equipment are contaminated
  • Order laboratory supplies and chemicals, keeping an eye on expiration dates
  • Working knowledge of analytical and instrumental testing methods.
  • Laboratory record-keeping requirements, best practices, and Good Documentation Practices
  • The use of personal protective equipment

  • Ensuring that all analytical testing reviews/second checks required are carried out in an accurate and efficient manner.
  • Reviewing testing data and authorizing release of BF batches, and FG lots if needed
  • Reviewing Lab Technicians’ notebooks for adherence to Good Laboratory and Good Documentation Practices
  • Maintaining analytical laboratory operations with adherence to GLP principles
  • Assist with archiving of retains, bulk batches (samples and paperwork) and PLR packets
  • Assist Analytical Supervisor and other duties as assigned
  • Critical thinking, time management, and organizational skills are a must.

Education and Training:

  • Four-year degree in a science related field, Chemistry or biology preferred.
  • Preferably some knowledge of Formulation Chemistry
  • Previous Experience in a Quality Control or Research and Development Laboratory environment preferred
  • Working familiarity with Good Laboratory Practices and current Good Manufacturing Practices
  • Math skills and computer skills (e.g. MS Office including Excel and Word) are essential

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of standing
  • Must be detailed oriented, hand eye coordination  
  • Must be able to lift to 10 pounds
