Job Description:

The Chemistry & Biochemistry Department at Fairfield University invites applications for a full-time visiting assistant professor position beginning on September 1, 2023. This is a non-tenure track position.  The appointment will be for the 2023-2024 academic year.

The position is for instruction in our General Chemistry Lecture, Organic Chemistry Lecture, and Core Science Curricula. The successful candidate will teach four courses per semester.  The teaching load for the Fall 2023 term is expected to be General Chemistry I lecture, Organic Chemistry I lecture and two lecture courses in the core science curriculum for non-science majors. The lecture and laboratory materials for the General Chemistry curriculum and the Organic Chemistry curriculum are each coordinated so that lecture and laboratory complement each other.

Requirements:

Applicants are expected to have completed a Ph.D. in Chemistry or an allied field, or should expect to receive their degree by summer 2023. Applicants must have a strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate lecture and laboratory teaching, and should have undergraduate lecture and laboratory teaching experience, preferably in General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry. Candidates should have good communication skills and experience using classroom/laboratory technology. Additionally, a commitment to pedagogical innovation and demonstrated excellence in using technology in the classroom and laboratory is required.


Additional Information:

The Department consists of nine full-time faculty representing a range of specialties and is housed in a spacious, well-equipped facility in the Bannow Science Center. The Department has high quality NSF-funded instrumentation including a 400 MHz NMR spectrometer and a MALDI-TOF mass spectrometer.   Our Department offers ACS-accredited B.S. degrees in Chemistry and in Biochemistry. The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry has a vibrant culture of undergraduate student-faculty collaboration in research, including departmental events and guest lecturers, and a large student interest in the health sciences.
