Job Summary:

Teach Chemistry 565/665 - Biophysical Chemistry

Chemistry 565/665 Biophysical Chemistry is a 4-credit introductory course on equilibrium thermodynamics and chemical kinetics with an emphasis on biological applications. Concepts presented include entropy, enthalpy, free energy, kinetics of complex reactions, non-covalent forces that determine protein and nucleic acid stability, and the folding and misfolding kinetics of proteins and nucleic acids. The course is required for undergraduate biochemistry majors and also includes a smaller number of graduate students in biophysics and related graduate programs. Enrollment is typically ~100-110 students, and lectures meet four times a week. Students meet once a week for a discussion class led by a graduate student teaching assistant.

Duties include:
- Preparing course materials
- Presenting lectures
- Preparing, administering, and grading exams and homework
- Holding office hours
- Other related duties

 

Responsibilities:

Facilitates classroom, online, and/or laboratory instruction and assists with instructional development and design for a single course or series of courses within an academic discipline to support the delivery of quality instruction. Provides for-credit instruction in formats such as classroom, online and/or laboratory settings, including grading. Serves as an instructor of record.

  • 80% Facilitates classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction for one or more courses, including assessment of student performance
  • 10% Develops instructional design and curriculum relevant to a course of instruction
  • 10% Serves as an initial point of contact for students as it relates to specific course or series content and expectations

 

Education:

Required
PhD in chemistry or related field 

 

Qualifications:

Previous experience teaching chemistry at the college/university level preferred.

 

Work Type:

Part Time: 50%

It is anticipated that this position requires work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

 

Appointment Type, Duration:

Terminal, 4 month appointment.
This position has the possibility to be extended or converted to an ongoing appointment based on need and/or funding

 

Salary:

The salary for a full time (100%) position for an academic year (9 months) is $47,727. The salary for this fall semester position will be prorated based on the appointment duration and percentage.

 

Additional Information:

There is a possibility this position could be extended in subsequent semesters to teach Chem 565/665 or similar courses within the department. This position may become renewable if there is a need for an ongoing appointment.
