Job No: 497410

Position Type: full-time

Location: Lewisburg, PA

Categories: Chemical Engineering

The Chemical Engineering Department at Bucknell University invites applicants for an entry-level tenure-track faculty position to start August 2024. We welcome candidates who demonstrate excellence in reflective multicultural and inclusive teaching practices and who display a strong commitment to collaboration and interdisciplinarity. The successful candidate will demonstrate the potential to provide excellent classroom and laboratory instruction across the core chemical engineering curriculum, be an academic adviser to our undergraduate majors, mentor undergraduate researchers, offer electives in their field of specialization, and demonstrate a commitment to supporting diversity and the university's liberal arts mission. The position is open to qualified applicants in any area of research. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. or ABD (i.e., completed all requirements of doctorate except the dissertation) in chemical engineering or a closely related field at time of appointment. Candidates are encouraged to address each of the above areas in their application materials.

Bucknell is a highly selective, primarily undergraduate university with a strong commitment to the broad experience of a residential liberal arts education. Our faculty have a passion for both teaching and research, and we emphasize student-centered education by engaging undergraduate students in both. The Chemical Engineering Department primarily offers a B.S. degree program along with a smaller thesis-based M.S. program. The hallmarks of a Bucknell chemical engineering education include outstanding teaching, small class sizes, hands-on and experiential learning, close interaction with approachable faculty and staff, and opportunities for undergraduates to conduct research with faculty. The Department strives to create an inclusive and supportive community in which all voices are valued and respected, diverse perspectives are embraced, and students, faculty, and staff of all backgrounds and identities can thrive.

The Department looks forward to welcoming, supporting and mentoring new colleagues in all aspects of their responsibilities. University-wide resources such as the Teaching and Learning Center, the Office of Sponsored Projects, the Office of Civic Engagement, and the Bucknell Center for Sustainability and the Environment, as well as generous programs for research, travel and leave support, are available to support faculty in their teaching and scholarly endeavors. Further details on the department of chemical engineering may be found at www.bucknell.edu/chemicalengineering.

Complete applications should include: (1) professional cover letter, (2) current curriculum vitae, (3) statement of teaching philosophy including the candidate's ideas for equitable and inclusive teaching and identification of at least three courses in the chemical engineering curriculum and one elective in their field of specialization to which the candidate could contribute (3 pages maximum), (4) statement of research interests and how the research work may include undergraduate students (2 pages maximum), and (5) names and email addresses of three references. Applications will only be accepted online through Bucknell's career site (careers.bucknell.edu); review of applications will begin on October 2, 2023 and continue until the position is filled.
