The Department of Chemistry at Virginia Tech is expanding its research presence in the broad area of Energy Research by announcing two tenure-track faculty openings at the Assistant Professor level. The position interfaces with a College of Science-wide effort to increase the University’s presence in the energy field, for example with additional positions this year in the Department of Geosciences.
These two positions will bring in researchers involved in energy storage, management, efficiency, and/or conversion, and will be split into (1) experimental development/synthesis/characterization, and (2) computational analysis and/or design. Candidates from a wide variety of research fields are encouraged to apply, with the goal of bringing new molecular insights into materials, processes, or devices and thus amplify our existing strengths, which include battery science, solar energy conversion, catalysis, energy efficient materials, advanced X-ray and NMR characterization, and mechanism/theory-based materials modeling and design.
These two positions will ideally start in Fall 2024 at our Blacksburg, VA campus. Potential candidates must have a Ph.D. in chemistry or a closely related field, establish an internationally recognized research program, be an effective teacher in graduate and undergraduate courses, and have a commitment to developing a culturally diverse educational environment. The Department of Chemistry is committed to building an inclusive community of chemists through programs and activities that are woven into the department’s research, teaching, and outreach efforts. We welcome applications from diverse, underrepresented candidates.
Applicants must submit application materials online at http://www.jobs.vt.edu in response to job number 526698. Application materials include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a description of research plans, a statement of teaching philosophy (not to exceed two pages), and statement of inclusive excellence (not to exceed two pages). The statement of inclusive excellence should communicate a commitment to diversity and inclusion as evidenced by any previous activities or future plans aimed at expanding diversity and/or mentoring of underrepresented groups, and how the applicant will further Virginia Tech’s commitment to build a culturally diverse educational environment (http://www.inclusive.vt.edu/).
We ask that candidates anonymize their research and teaching statements. To do so, please remove all instances of names, previous/current research groups, and institutions.
Applicants should arrange for at least three letters of recommendation to be submitted to receive full consideration. Review of applications will begin October 2, 2023, and will continue until the position is filled.
For any questions specifically related to the positions, please contact Louis Madsen, Search Committee Chair, at energysearch@vt.edu.
