EPA’s Office of Research and Development (ORD), Center for Environmental Solutions and Emergency Response (CESER) is seeking to fill its Associate Director for Science position. The ideal candidate has demonstrated nationally recognized experience in leading environmental research on methods to manage environmental risks, especially in the built environment, and translating results into impactful environmental solutions to technical and non-technical partners and stakeholders. Major duties for Associate Director of Science position include:
Serving as a Senior Advisor to ORD and CESER management, CESER’s Associate Director for Science (ADS) provides guidance to, and oversight of, the research program related to exploring risk management alternatives for protecting human health and environmental quality from environmental contaminants in various media. Leading an integrated research program that applies systematic investigation of theory, experimentation, or simulation of experiments to environmental risk management research related to characterization of pollutant generation and release and prevention and control of pollution to air, land, and water resources. Serving as the scientific lead for communicating the impact of CESER’s research program both to partners within the Agency and to entities outside of the Agency by establishing and maintaining liaison with prominent scientists around the world for exchanging ideas and information and promoting mutually beneficial cooperative activities and programs. Presenting environmental research and science to both technical and non-technical partners and stakeholders. Developing and maintaining close working relationships with Offices and Centers within ORD by participating in ORD’s strategic planning process, as well as CESER’s annual planning process, to ensure that integrated risk management programs to address pressing short and long-term needs are developed and implemented. Effectively disseminating CESER’s environmental research findings by translating them into environmental solutions, communicating them to internal Agency officials and external partners and stakeholders, and assuring the scientific quality of the information being released.
Salary and Benefits: This is a Scientific and Professional (ST) position. The position is a full-time, permanent appointment. The salary range is $183,501-$212,100 per year. Determination of salary is dependent upon qualifications, experience, current salary, and other factors. The selected applicant will be eligible for full benefits, including relocation expenses, health and life insurance, retirement, and vacation and sick leave.
