Other duties include monitoring chemistry lab spaces in the Wall Academic Center and serving as its primary contact to different support groups within the college, arranging for proper disposal of chemical wastes, training and supervising student workers that assist the lab manager, assisting faculty in teaching laboratories as needed, and performing general equipment maintenance. The lab manager has a personal office and access to several lab preparatory spaces. Work with hazardous chemicals may be required.
At least a Bachelor’s degree in chemistry is required, extensive experience in laboratory work is critical, and prior experience in chemical education is preferred. Experience with safe handling of chemicals, personal computers and basic laboratory instrumentation is required. Good interpersonal and communication skills are also important. Davidson College places a high priority on encouraging all students, including those from groups that are underrepresented in STEM fields, to pursue science at the college. Applicants should be excited to work with a diverse group of undergraduate students.
