The Department of Chemistry at Davidson College seeks to hire a tenure-track faculty member in any subdiscipline of chemistry at the Assistant Professor level beginning July 1, 2024. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Chemistry or a related field before the start of the appointment. As a department and a college, we are committed to supporting diversity and inclusion, and current members of the department actively participate in initiatives that enrich the teaching and mentoring of our diverse student body. We especially welcome candidates who have benefited from, contributed to, or created programs directed toward diversity and inclusion.
To support a successful research program involving undergraduates, the position includes start-up funds and a personal research lab in a state of the art, interdisciplinary science building housing modern instrumentation. In addition to general chemistry, teaching responsibilities will include foundational and/or advanced elective courses commensurate with the candidate’s training and expertise. Candidates whose teaching interests include organic chemistry, justice/equality/community, data science, or digital studies are of particular interest. An interest in teaching courses in first-year writing or lab science courses for students not pursuing STEM majors is also valued.
Candidates will be evaluated based on the following application materials (pages are suggested length): a cover letter describing your interest and qualifications for the position (1-2 pages), a CV (2-5 pages), a teaching statement describing courses/subdisciplines of interest and how you would foster inclusivity and diversity in the classroom (1-2 pages), and a research statement describing your scholarship and its future directions, including how you would foster inclusivity and diversity in your research program involving undergraduates (3-5 pages). Include in your CV names and contact information for three people from whom letters of recommendation may be solicited by mid-October. See here for additional information about the area, college, department, position, search process, and specific guidance for materials requested. Preference will be given to applications received by September 22, 2023; the position will remain open until filled. Inquiries may be directed to Jeffrey Myers, Chemistry Department Chair, firstname.lastname@example.org. Apply online.
