The Department of Chemistry at Ohio Wesleyan University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Organic Chemistry starting in August, 2024. We are seeking candidates committed to engaged undergraduate teaching and to developing an accessible research program that involves undergraduates, including those who are traditionally underrepresented in the sciences. We are especially interested in candidates able to build bridges between organic chemistry and other areas of student interest, such as pre-health and neuroscience, both in class and in one-on-one teaching opportunities. The successful candidate will benefit from extensive support for junior faculty, including professional development funding, pre-tenure research leave after a successful third-year review, funding for student-faculty research collaboration via the Summer Science Research Program and the The OWU Connection, and a range of workshops and mentoring programs.
This job is part of a cluster of positions with which Ohio Wesleyan seeks to further diversify its curriculum and faculty. Responsibilities
- Developing and teaching the two-semester sequence of organic chemistry and the accompanying laboratories, in support of a wide range of students with diverse interests and future plans;
Factors contributing success
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in organic chemistry or a related discipline such as bioorganic or medicinal organic chemistry;
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience as the Instructor of Record for an undergraduate chemistry course
