Job Details
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry of the University of Maryland invites applications for tenure-track faculty positions in all areas of chemistry and biochemistry. Candidates in the areas of analytical, inorganic/materials, and organic chemistry are particularly encouraged to apply. While Assistant Professors are the focus of this search, exceptional senior faculty applicants will also be considered for tenured Associate/Full Professor appointments. Applicants must demonstrate the potential to develop renowned independent research programs and a commitment to teaching and mentoring students from diverse backgrounds and at all levels. The term of appointment is expected to begin in August 2024.
Completion of a Chemistry Research Building in 2024 will catalyze a new era in the chemical sciences at the University of Maryland. Multiple faculty members are sought to join a vibrant, interactive, and innovative community. They will join efforts to build up signature research themes including multidimensional biomolecular science, emergent materials & sustainability, and multi-scale molecular science. The Department is dedicated to transformative research and education programs that impact society through the generation and application of new knowledge and the preparation of students for meaningful employment. The University of Maryland, College Park is the flagship campus of the University of Maryland System and is ideally located close to Washington, D. C., Baltimore, and Maryland’s 270 Technology Corridor. Its faculty enjoy close interactions and collaborations with nearby government laboratories that include NIH, NIST, FDA, NCI, NRL, NASA and ARL.
The criteria for selection include proven excellence, outstanding potential for scientific impact through original research and scholarship, and exceptional communication skills. A Ph.D. in chemistry, biochemistry, or a related field is required. Salary is commensurate with rank and qualifications.
