Tenure Track Assistant Professor in Cancer Research Biomaterials or Body-Device Interfaces
Virginia Tech seeks to recruit an innovative researcher in the area of biomaterials and body-device interfaces in cancer research for a tenure track faculty position at the assistant professor level. As the successful candidate, you will have expertise in either the development and application of materials compatible with living systems to treat disorders in humans and/or animals and/or the development of interfaces and systems including sensors for monitoring and analyzing health data remotely. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline, postdoctoral experience, a record of outstanding publications and a history or strong promise of successful extramural research funding. Investigators with backgrounds in either chemical engineering, materials science engineering, biomedical engineering and mechanics or computer science are encouraged to apply. A tenure track position in the appropriate department in the College of Engineering will accompany this appointment in the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC in Roanoke.
This is primarily a research intensive position, but will include responsibility for some teaching in graduate programs as well as providing research mentorship for graduate, medical and undergraduate students. The position will be located at the FBRI at VTC (https://research.vtc.vt.edu) on the university’s health sciences campus in Roanoke, Virginia. In addition to the original 100,000 square foot research institute that opened in 2010, a new adjacent 139,000 square foot research building (http://fralinbiomed.info/buildingtour) recently opened in which the new faculty member will have their research program. The biomaterials and body device interfaces wing has a good manufacturing practice facility, 3D printing facility, machine shop, chemical containment facility and multiple wet lab research bays. In addition, the building contains multiple MRIs for human and animal research including high field MR guided PET, micro-CT-PET and MR guided focused ultrasound, multiple cellular/molecular imaging facilities including spinning disc confocal microscopy, standard laser scanning confocal microscopy, scanning block face electron microscopy, super resolution microscopy, a fully shielded optically pumped magnetometry facility as well as biochemical and molecular biology cores including mass spec and behavioral testing suites for animals and humans.

Applicants should have an earned a doctorate (PhD, MD and/or DVM), postdoctoral research experience, a record of accomplishment of research productivity through high quality publications and a record of successful extramural funding (preferably from NIH).
The successful applicant will be expected to establish and maintain a high-quality, extramurally-funded research program and participate in research mentoring of undergraduate, graduate, and medical students with some teaching in graduate programs.
