Description
The Department of Chemistry at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA, invites
applications for a non-tenure-track Assistant Professor, General Faculty (teaching track) position
in Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry, to begin in the 2024-2025 academic year. This is a
three-year, tenure-ineligible appointment with the possibility of renewal, contingent upon
available funding, satisfactory performance, and need for the position. The primary
responsibilities involve instruction of large lecture courses in organic chemistry and
biochemistry; experience teaching nursing students is a plus.
Preference will be given to applicants with teaching experience in organic chemistry and
biochemistry courses. The successful candidate is expected to teach three courses per semester or
their equivalent. Start date for the position is August 25, 2024.
Compensation will be commensurate with experience and includes 9-month salary with full-time
benefits (there is also a possibility of summer term teaching for additional pay). The term of this
appointment will be for three academic years with the possibility of renewal.
Qualifications
A Ph.D. in Chemistry or related field is required by appointment start date. At least one year of
independent teaching experience and a commitment to teaching excellence is required.
