Tenure-Track Position in Environmental Engineering

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences (CEEES) at the University of Notre Dame invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position in environmental engineering to complement the existing faculty. The position is anticipated to commence in the Fall of 2024.

We are seeking a highly qualified candidate who possesses a doctoral degree in environmental engineering or a closely related field. Candidates who have fulfilled all requirements for their doctoral degree but are awaiting the formal conferment are also encouraged to apply; however, they must ensure that their terminal degree is conferred before their intended start date.

The Notre Dame environmental engineering faculty boasts substantial expertise in various areas, including environmental biotechnology, water quality, advanced water treatment, emerging contaminants, fluid dynamics, earth systems, and resilient infrastructure. In alignment with these strengths, the department is actively seeking an exceptional faculty member who specializes in, but is not restricted to, the following research domains: smart environmental systems (e.g., sensors), advanced materials for environmental applications (e.g., membranes, catalysts), carbon capture and storage, resource recovery and reuse, green infrastructure, advanced computational tools (e.g., machine learning, artificial intelligence), environmental risk, or air quality.

Candidates for the position should be qualified to teach environmental engineering courses, with a strong commitment to teaching excellence at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The applicant will be expected to develop an internationally recognized and externally funded research program and teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students. Candidates should have the ability and motivation to participate in collaborative efforts with other researchers within the program and across the university in interdisciplinary areas that include the Environmental Change Initiative (ECI), ND Energy, ND Nano, and the Keough School of Global Affairs. Professional registration as an Environmental Engineer or having the qualifications to obtain Professional Engineering (PE) licensure within five years of appointment will be considered a strength.
