The School of Chemistry and Materials Science (SCMS) at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor faculty position, beginning in August 2024.

In 2018 the School of Chemistry & Materials Science received $4M toward its Chemical Analysis Facility. The instrumentation recently purchased include, but not limited to, GCMS, LCMS, FPLC, GPC, fluorescence lifetime, NMR, EDXRF, SEM, and IR and Raman microscopies that will all be fully available to the candidate that fills this position. The College of Science currently has several strategic priorities, including efforts to attract and retain high-quality, diverse faculty, students, and staff; to ensure an inclusive campus culture and a global mindset; to advance research and scholarship; to capitalize on key partnerships and current strengths to increase the community, regional, and global impact of COS; and to incentivize, support, recognize, and reward scholarly engagement activities by students, faculty, and staff. We plan to hire faculty who can contribute to some or all of these strategic priorities.
The School of Chemistry & Materials Science offers undergraduate degrees in Chemistry
and Biochemistry, Master's degrees in Chemistry and Materials Science & Engineering, and several BS/MS program options. The school currently has 23 faculty members and supports approximately 150 BS Chemistry and Biochemistry majors, 20 MS students in Chemistry and Materials Science & Engineering, and many BS/MS students. Required Qualifications: A PhD degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or a closely related discipline.
- Postdoctoral research experience
- Evidence of sustained peer reviewed publications in disciplinary journals
Preferred Qualifications: Priority will be given to candidates who have:
- A proposed independent research program:
- with research focus of analytical, bioanalytical, or environmental chemistry.
- that will attract external funding from agencies such as NIH, NSF, industry, or other governmental or private sources.
- that will incorporate both undergraduate and graduate students at RIT.
- that will leverage our chemical instrumentations and/or incorporate advanced tools such as AI, big data, and advanced analytical, instrumental, or bioanalytical techniques.
All applicants will be evaluated but preference will be made to those proposing an analytical research program that focuses on biological or environmental systems. Successful candidates will have a demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, and multicultural competence in an educational and work environment and must be willing to contribute to the College's continuing commitment to access, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
